Job Description: The Cisco Server Access and Virtualization Publications team is looking for a Technical Writer to help create and update documentation for products that support Ethernet and Fibre Channel network technologies.
You will research and track both hardware and software projects, and update and develop documentation from scratch to support those projects. You will work with editors and technical subject matter experts to improve documentation and follow Cisco style guidelines. Your projects could involve co-authoring or working independently.
Typical doc set consists of:
CLI configuration guide and command references, GUI configuration guides, online help, hardware installation guides, troubleshooting guides, system message guides, and release notes.
This position requires:
* Experience documenting networking technologies. Previous LAN, SAN and/or data center switching documentation experience is a plus.
* Translate complex concepts into user-friendly, clear, concise information for the end user.
* Excellent teamwork skills. You may be required to co-author documents or to change writing assignments occasionally.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to achieve goals and resolve issues.
* Ability to function well, and be flexible, in a fast-paced development environment with rapidly changing deadlines and project scope.
* Ability to handle special projects and lead initiatives in addition to core writing responsibilities.
* Possess technical knowledge, industry knowledge, champion improvements, and think globally.
* Ability to work smoothly with management/team in all of the above areas.
* Must be located in (or willing to relocate to) San Jose, CA area.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
DITA, FrameMaker, Perl, JavaScript, HTML, XML, XSLT, Unix shell scripting, Wiki Markup
EDUCATION:
Typically requires BA/BS or equivalent experience, and minimum of 10 years of related experience.
Preferred: MA/MS or equivalent experience. Degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
